Senate Republicans Demand Vote on Title 42

Senate Republicans on Tuesday said they won’t vote on the bipartisan $10 million spending bill unless a vote on Title 42 takes place.

The COVID-19 spending measure provides funding for therapeutics, vaccines and testing that wasn’t included in the recent $1.5 trillion omnibus spending package, Just the News reports

As previously reported by Human Events News, the Biden administration on May 23 will end the use of Title 42, a Trump-era policy used to expel illegal immigrants during times of health crisis.

“There’s going to have to be an amendment on Title 42 in order to move the bill,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

Indeed, on Tuesday, Senate Republicans blocked a vote to advance the bill, with the chamber set to adjourn Thursday or Friday for a two-week recess.

“I don’t think there are probably 10 Republican votes at the moment for a process that doesn’t at least include an amendment vote on Title 42, perhaps among other amendments,” South Dakota Sen. John Thune said. “Republicans aren’t wild about the bill anyway, so they feel comfortable digging their heels in.
