Remainder of Women’s Basketball Season at UVI Canceled; University Blames Injuries, Other Factors
The University of the Virgin Island said Tuesday it has canceled the remainder of the 2022-2023 women’s basketball schedule “due to a number of injuries as well as some ineligible players for the second semester.”
The university said its women’s basketball team were 0-5 this season and last played on Nov. 4, in the UVI HBCU Basketball Classic.
“It is an unfortunate situation that we are dealing with and we had to make the tough decision to cancel the rest of the women’s basketball season here at the University of the Virgin Islands,” said Henville Pole, interim director of athletics at UVI. “We look forward to building our roster size up over the coming months and being back for the 2023-’24 season.”
To that end, UVI has tapped Men’s Head Coach, Shannon Taylor, as the Interim Women’s Head Coach while the University begins the search to replace Coach Lynika Collins, who recently separated from the University, according to the release.
