Motorists Heading East End Urged to Take South Shore Road as Secret Service Has Cut Off Traffic to Non-Residents
If you are not a resident of Estate Solitude and communities further east along the same roadway on the east end of St. Croix, the executive security of Governor Albert Bryan is urging residents not to traverse said roadway, as the United States Secret Service has blocked the road and is turning away motorists as part of the security strategy for President Joe Biden.
On Tuesday, as the president’s arrival drew near, snipers positioned themselves on roofs, spot lights searched far away bushes, and dogs sniffed the surroundings — all standard procedures in the sprawling presidential security operation.
Mr. Biden, his wife First Lady Jill Biden and their family landed on St. Croix Tuesday night, though Secret Service personnel have been on island long before to establish security protocols.
Residents who want to visit Cramer’s Park, Point Udall and other far-east destinations can take the South Shore Road from Estate Tipperary (road near Cheeseburgers in Paradise) and Estate Lowry Hill (road near the East Way Service Station), or through other access points such as Catherine’s Rest, according to Governor Bryan’s security detail.
Air Force One landed on the tarmac without any hiccups and Mr. Biden and his family — roughly a dozen people —disembarked the aircraft, boarded several SUVs and traveled to their destination.
In 2015 and again in 2016, Mr. Biden welcomed the new year on St. Croix.
