ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department said Sunday that it needs the community’s assistance to locate a man who allegedly broke into the home of a female victim, took her child and left. The suspect is believed to be the father of the child, according to police.

The suspect, Malik Rohlsen, is wanted by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigations Bureau (C.I.B.), Domestic Violence Unit on a first-degree burglary charge.

C.I.B. detectives responded to a call from the 911 Emergency Call Center at 8:41 a.m. Saturday in the vicinity of Breezewood Villas, Estate Concordia in Frederiksted, where a father allegedly took a child without the mother’s permission. The police department said Rolhsen damaged the screen door that was locked and entered the victim’s apartment without her permission and threatened to kill her.

The suspect was located at his residence and his mother assisted in retrieving the baby, however Rohlsen evaded police officers.

Rohlsen is a 23-year-old black male standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. He is slim, has brown eyes, black hair and a light complexion.

If you see or know the whereabouts of Rohlsen, use caution, he may be armed and is dangerous, the V.I.P.D. said. Call C.I.B. at 340-778-2211 or the Crime Tip-line 340-778-4950. You may also provide an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
