ST. THOMAS — A man was pronounced dead at the Schneider Regional Medical Center after being shot in Kronprindsense Gade, St. Thomas Thursday night, the V.I. Police Department announced Friday morning.
According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on Thursday at about 8:48 p.m. a resident called the 911 Emergency Call Center to report that a black male was lying on the ground in the area of Lower Kronprindense Gade.
The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body and appeared to be slipping in and out of consciousness, the resident told 911.
Responding officers and emergency medical technicians traveled to the crime scene and made contact with the black male. EMTs began life-saving efforts and transported the victim to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance.
At about 9:32 p.m., the victim succumbed to injuries sustained from the gunshot wound. He was later identified by next of kin as 35-year-old Jasim Denver Thompson.
