ST. CROIX — A 21-year-old man succumbed to gunshot injuries at the Juan F. Luis Hospital Monday after being shot multiple times while in his yard in Barren Spot washing his vehicle, the V.I. Police Department has announced.
According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call of a gunshot victim at about 5:41 p.m. Monday, and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a critically injured black male, who was at home in his yard washing his vehicle “when a black male exited a vehicle, discharged multiple shots at him, and jumped back into the vehicle and sped away in a southern direction,” according to the police department.
The victim was transported to JFL where he succumbed to the gunshot injuries sustained. He was identified by next of kin as 21-year-old Raj Darnelle White of Baron Spot.
The case is being investigated by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact 911, the C.I.B. TipLine 340-778-4950, 340-778-2211 or Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
