Man Barricades Himself in Home, Threatens to Kill His Ex-Girlfriend and a Police Officer After Allegedly Assaulting Woman
ST. CROIX — Bail has been set for a man who barricaded himself in his home after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Roberto Rodriguez was arrested on Friday after officers on mobile patrol in the Frederiksted area were dispatched to a verbal disturbance. According to the probable cause fact sheet, the complainant reported that her ex-boyfriend was drunk and breaking items.
When police spoke to the woman, she explained that she had returned home and her ex-boyfriend Rodriquez had started arguing and cursing at her, causing neighbors to leave their homes to investigate the disturbance. She further claimed that he began to consume alcohol and break items in the home. According to the woman, Rodriguez then punched her in the face while allegedly threatening to kill her.
When police tried to make contact with Rodriguez, he reportedly barricaded himself in the home while cursing, shouting and threatening to kill both the police officer and the victim. Police then made contact with the suspect’s mother who, according to the fact sheet, indicated that he is in need of psychological help and anger management. Rodriguez then opened the front door and the responding officer observed that the entire house was in disarray, including a broken glass table and broken ornaments. The fact sheet notes that the officer also observed swelling to the victim’s left eye.
Rodriguez was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and battery, disturbance of the peace by threats and destruction of property. He appeared before a judge on Monday and bail was set at $1000. However, the judge concluded that he would be released upon the posting of $101 cash, accompanied by an unsecured bond for the remainder. While this matter is pending, Rodriguez is ordered to maintain a distance of at least 1000 feet from the alleged victim at all times.
