Holiday Giving: Seniors at Flambouyant Gardens on St. Croix Receive New Furniture From Banco Popular
Staff of Banco Popular on Wednesday presented gifts of furniture to three senior citizens at the Flambouyant Gardens senior living facility on St. Croix, the second year the banking institution has taken on this benevolent act.
The effort is an initiative that sees bank executives and employees on St. Croix, the St. Thomas-St. John District and the British Virgin Islands identifying senior living communities and gifting them with items on the seniors’ wish list. Days are also coordinated where Banco Popular staff spend time with the seniors for social interaction and camaraderie, according to the bank.
On Wednesday, Carlos Furniture employees delivered the furniture — two living room sets and a drawer — and assembled them for the visibly grateful seniors.
Banco Popular Senior Vice President and Region Manager for the Virgin Islands, Oran Roebuck, said, “We are proud to present gifts of furniture to some of the residence of the Flamboyant Garden. We started this initiative a year ago in support with Carlos Furniture in which we will seek a wish list from the residence and provide them gifts of furniture. Today, we are delivering three living room sets and a bedroom set. We do feel our seniors are the pillars of our community and they should not be forgotten.”
Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands CEO, Junia John-Straker, was moved by the donation the senior citizens received and praised Banco Popular for the gifts. “It is really exciting,” she said. “They have been supportive over the years and last year they supported this senior facility. They also have in the past given us checks to do different things. We really appreciate their partnership and are excited for the seniors that they are getting the attention that seniors should get. I am really grateful.”
Julia Burgos, a recipient of one of the furniture sets, extended her appreciation to Banco Popular. “I want to say thank you to Banco Popular for the gift. I really needed it. So thank you, thank you,” she said.
