Funeral Service For Schneider Scheduled For Jan 12; Former Governor Won’t Lie in State as Per His Living Request and Wishes of Family
The Funeral service for former governor Dr. Roy Lester Schneider are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, Gov’t House has announced.
While Thursday’s service at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral is open to the public, there will be no public viewing, and the former governor will not lie in state per his living request and the wishes of his family, Gov’t House said.
Interment at Eastern Cemetery will follow immediately after Thursday’s service.
On December 19, Acting Governor Tregenza A. Roach ordered that all U.S. and Virgin Islands flags on public buildings and grounds be flown at half-staff in honor of Governor Schneider.
Acting Governor Roach also asked all owners of all private and federal buildings in the territory to fly their flags at half-staff in honor of Governor Schneider.
Schneider died on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022. He was the fifth elected governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
